Q: Old North facing wall of 1850s cottage has been rendered and masonry painted. Old cracks are appearing through and North West corner seems to have exterior penetrative damp issues. What breathable filler should be used for cracks? North West corner should paint and render come off before repairing cracks weather shielding with breathable solution and silcate based paint?
A: The crack repair compound is normally used to repair cracks in imprinted concrete or other concrete surfaces but can be also be used to repair the cracks in the masonry you have described. It is always best to remove any flaking paint prior to carrying out any repairs prior to painting.
Q: The cracks in my printed concrete and getting quite wide even though we use the crack repair every year should we cut the cracks to make them big enough to get a bigger amount of repair into the cracks?
A: You could in theory cut the cracks but this is not normal practice. If the cracks have become wider it is best to try and fill them with as much care as possible to try and avoid making them look worse or bigger than they actually are.
Q: Can I paint over crack repair kit if I prime it first before painting? If yes is it best to go for unpigmented or colour? Many thanks
A: You can use tarmaseal to paint over the crack repair compound after it has cured. If you know what the existing colour is its best to use the same or similar colour in the compound.

Theres ample enough in the tub to do lots of crack repairs if necessary. Its probably geared up for concrete repairs but I only needed it for cracks. Make sure you order the correct colour.
I used this product to brush into repair small cracks in my driveway. It is important to carefully follow the instructions but the results are excellent and the cracks are now barely noticeable.
The concrete repair compound is too coarse a grain. Does not get into the medium size or small cracks. \needs to be a finer wix.
